Greg Hillyard – an exceptionally tall photographer, who nonetheless is no stranger to a great low angle shot, always vows, “My next photography project will be my best.”
Greg shoots weddings, events and interiors. And he lectures at the Cape Town School of Photography, and for Education without Borders at Fezeka High School in Gugulethu. He also runs a photography meetup group called We are photography Cape Town. Greg spends his spare time reading, travelling, playing guitar, trail running, gardening, enjoying life and losing his sunglasses.

Initially a student in one of Greg’s advanced photography courses at Cape Town School of Photography, Jess Amy McCleland has been working at Mirth Photography since October 2014.
She acts as Greg’s second shooter at events. “Jessica is an enthusiastic photographer, with a will to learn, always welcoming new challenges. She is eager to please, reliable and has a positive disposition. She has an effervescent nature which puts clients at ease, and which is essential with event photography. Her photography shows her keen eye for capturing the energy of key moments,” says Greg.
Jessica also enjoys landscape photography, specifically those hard to reach, isolated places, and she has quite a passion for food photography, “probably, because I am a ‘food baby’ and love to cook”.
Lukholo Samela walked straight into Greg’s life one day when he was at Fezeka High, where he teaches photography every year. Lukholo told Greg that he’d like to be included in the group … and so it happened.
“Lukholo is a special guy! He is a great, somewhat hidden talent and I am blessed to be able to mentor such a unique soul.” says Greg. “It was clear that he was creative and thought outside the box; and he quickly understood how to create an image. He has no problem taking direction from me in a shoot and assumes responsibility without any fuss. Lukholo is keenly interested in fashion and specifically the look of a gentleman.
He says, “My name is Lukholo …a soul born and raised in the streets and corners of Gugulethu. In life we live & we learn, no two ways about it…Today I’m a professional fashion photographer, make-up artist, stylist …”
